Where Classical Roots Meet Contemporary Sounds

Hello World Featured Image

Born in the cultural crossroads of Bangalore, Project Mishram (MishraM), a seven-piece progressive Carnatic fusion band formed in 2015 as a collaboration between seven young musicians with a shared love for Indian classical music and contemporary global sounds.

The band’s name captures their identity perfectly: Mishram—a Sanskrit word meaning “mix” and also the number seven—in Indian classical rhythms that mirror the music they create. Their sound is a vibrant tapestry woven from Rock, Metal, Jazz, Reggae, and Electronic music, all rooted in the melodic and rhythmic richness of Indian classical traditions. With soaring violin lines, intricate flute melodies, powerful vocals, and a rhythm section that effortlessly moves between mridangam patterns and progressive metal grooves, Project Mishram crafts a musical language that feels at once global and deeply Indian.

Their journey began on the live circuit, where two years of relentless performing—at open mics, college festivals, and live venues—earned them over 35 Battle of the Bands victories. These early years shaped their musical identity and ignited a momentum that soon carried them far beyond national borders.

Over the years, Project Mishram has taken their sound to stages around the world. With three international tours (2019, 2022, 2023) and 30+ overseas shows, the band has performed at iconic festivals like the Louder than Life Festival, ArcTangent Festival 2023, UK Tech Fest, and others, sharing festival lineups with progressive giants such as Slayer. Slipknot, Monuments, Judas Priest, and Mötley Crü. From intimate club sets in Europe to massive festival crowds, Mishram’s live performances are known for their energy, precision, and unmistakable identity.

Recognition has followed them at home as well. They’ve won major competitions including Yamaha Swagbash and Maruti Suzuki Colours of Youth Season 7, the latter judged by Benny Dayal, Shakti Mohan, Neeti Mohan, and Soha Ali Khan—culminating in the band being awarded a brand-new Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. They’ve performed on Kappa TV’s Music Mojo, Nat Geo Wild’s Echoes of Earth, TEDx, and college and cultural festivals across India, while also opening for some of the most celebrated artists in the country: Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Benny Dayal, Sid Sriram, Thaikkudam Bridge, and more.

Their music has also earned global recognition. Their debut album Meso, featuring celebrated collaborators such as Rajesh Vaidya, KMac2021, and Arun Luthra, received critical acclaim, appearing on the Grammy Awards 2022 longlist for Best New Artist and Best Album of the Year, and earning a Best Debut Album nomination from ProgSpace Awards 2021. Coverage from publications like Rolling Stone and ProgSpace, along with strong support from Indian media, has cemented their place in the modern fusion landscape.

In recent years, the band has continued to represent India internationally, performing at the German Foreign Office’s Tag der offenen Tür, the Kultur Sommerfestival in Berlin, and Independence Day celebrations at the Embassy of India in Vienna, along with shows across Spain, Italy, and Slovenia.

At its core, Project Mishram is driven by curiosity, collaboration, and a passion for reimagining what Indian classical fusion can be. Their journey—spanning continents, and a constantly evolving sound—reflects their belief that music is a boundaryless space where tradition and innovation not only coexist, but elevate each other.
